How to fix IPTV buffering for good
The five real causes of IPTV buffering and how to solve each: Wi-Fi placement, the 5 GHz band, actual throughput, player buffer settings and ISP congestion.

The short answer is: it depends on your network, not on the IPTV service itself. A VPN encrypts your traffic and routes it through an intermediate server, which can solve a couple of specific problems, but it also adds an extra hop that almost always introduces some latency. It is not a required piece for IPTV to work, and in plenty of households it adds no real benefit at all.
The most common case is when an internet provider applies some form of throttling based on the type of traffic it detects on the line, a practice known as traffic shaping. If that is happening, encrypting the traffic with a VPN can stop the provider from identifying and selectively slowing it down. It is a real but fairly uncommon scenario: most dropouts blamed on this actually have a much simpler cause, covered in the guide on how to fix IPTV buffering.
Almost any time the real problem lies elsewhere. If the buffering is caused by Wi-Fi, distance from the router, or an older playback device, adding a VPN fixes nothing and stacks an extra layer of encryption and an additional network hop onto the stream, which shows up as more latency and, on congested VPN servers, less available bandwidth. In that scenario the VPN is not neutral, it makes the original problem more noticeable, not less.
Changing a VPN's exit country does not change which channels your IPTV subscription includes: the catalogue is defined by the service provider, not by your connection's apparent location. This is a common mix-up carried over from how other streaming platforms serve different catalogues by country, but it does not apply the same way to an IPTV service with a single catalogue shared across all users.
In short: a VPN is a useful tool for one specific kind of provider-side traffic problem, not a requirement for IPTV to work well. If your connection and Wi-Fi are already in good shape, you probably do not need one at all.
