What is IPTV and how does it work in the UK?
What IPTV actually means, how it differs from Freeview and satellite, and what you need to run it on a standard UK broadband connection.

EPG stands for Electronic Programme Guide: it is the grid that shows what is airing right now on each channel and what is coming up next, usually laid out as a scrollable timeline you can move forward by several hours or even days. It is the same idea as a traditional aerial TV channel guide, adapted to IPTV.
The playback app (TiviMate, IPTV Smarters and similar) periodically downloads a programme metadata file, usually in XMLTV format, and matches it against the service's channel list. That file updates independently of the video stream itself, so two separate pieces need to be working correctly at once for the guide to look complete: the channel source and the programme data source.
Almost always for one of two reasons: the app has not finished its first data download yet (this can take several minutes after installing, especially with large catalogues), or the device's time zone setting does not match the broadcast country. Before assuming the service is at fault, check the device's clock and time zone, a configuration slip that is far more common than it sounds.
That depends on the playback app, not on the IPTV service itself: some apps let you tap a programme in the EPG to record it if the device has enough storage, others only use it as an informational reference. It is worth checking the chosen app's options during the free 48-hour trial rather than assuming a specific feature is available.
If the EPG still will not load correctly after checking these points, it is usually a one-off issue with the playback app rather than the service, and it is normally fixed by reinstalling the app, a step also covered in the Firestick setup guide.
